What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Cocoa always tells you about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it truly mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our experts are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these standards, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only certain areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
